Color Combo: Hot Pink and Dark Blue

11-21-08pink4.jpg

It's not a color combo you see very often, but when done right hot pink and dark blue can look surprisingly chic. We found a few photos of pink paired with hues ranging from navy to royal to dark purple-blues. All of them have a sense of edgy elegance...

Lack Luster Lighting
Adventures In Loft Living Day 5

112108-lighting.jpg As most of us know lighting in your homes and spaces can either make or break the feel of them. Bad lighting can make even the most well designed room feel insignificant and great lighting can make a milk crate in an empty room look like a palace fit for a King. Click through the jump to help chime in on our dim and dark lighting issues.

Wood and White Dining Rooms from E15

11-31-08table1.jpg

We've got a thing for wood and white in the dining room, so when we spotted these rooms from German company E15, we were smitten. Many of these arrangements also make use of another favorite theme: the simple wooden dining table with "other" chairs. You can't get much more classic modern than this...

Good Questions: How to Repair Cracks Before Painting?

cracks112108.jpg

FYI: This is NOT Kerry's Wall
Kerry has a good question: Hi there! I moved into my Lincoln Square condo last year- it was a gut rehab of a 1920\'s vintage building. Over the last 18 months, cracks have appeared in some of my walls. I am planning on painting my living room next week and want to repair the cracks prior to painting. Any suggestions on how to make them disappear permanently?

Fork Tines as Place Card Holder

1121_fork.jpg

If you're using place cards at your dinner table this holiday, maybe consider using something that's already on the table as a holder: the tines of each setting's fork. I found this idea when planning for my wedding and put it right to use as it reduces clutter at the table and can save a lot of time and money for more important elements of your party...

On Sale: Rugs at Urban Outfitters

11-21-08rug1.jpg

For cheap rugs in bold patterns, Urban Outfitters is a go-to source. In our experience, these medium quality rugs aren't great for high-traffic areas that take a lot of abuse, but they're a good way to add some interest to a low-wear space like a bedroom, guest room, or office. Right now rugs are on sale, so you can afford a little color at low cost...

Good Questions: Using Spray Mount for a Wall Mural?

mural112108.jpgRebecca sent us an email: Recently I've been really excited about the range of paper wall murals that are cropping up in the design world. I'm toying with making my own photo mural to fill a 4.5"x15" (tall, I know!) wall near my entryway.

I've found an online resource that can scale an image for me, and I can print out on my own printer (thanks, rasterbator)! The catch is that I have a fear of using wallpaper paste to put it up. I don't own the unit I live in and I would hate to have a huge mess on my hands when I move out...

Stylish Modern Homes from Shipping Containers
Archinect

11-21-08shipping1.jpg

We've covered shipping container homes on AT before (here, here and here), but we're continually impressed by the possibilities of this malleable recycled material. Archinect has a good article right now on this modern home by DeMaria Design Associates, constructed from 8 stacked containers with its own container pool...
