Name: Sarah
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Why I use color:
"I use color as a sort of theater-set. Giving your space a noteworthy backdrop, something that doesn't just fade away beneath your eyes, frames everything you do with a sense of drama and of spirit."

Color Tips:
"I love color combinations that really pop. Compliments like yellow and purple really stand out, so do colors not so far away on the color wheel, like red and purple. Colors in the same family just don't have the same punch. Adding a little iridescence to colors (like yellow) helps give them depth. Boring, flat color is for the birds. Simply framed (but well framed) images should stand out nicely. I like stark white mat board to contrast the richness of the rest of the room."

Color Resources:
Home depot paint store! I have always had luck with used/returned paint. A gallon for $2.50? I'll take it.
Also, richly pigmented glass is a good way to add color without a lot of heavy objects that soak up the light.

I'm imagining this apartment on one of those still-too-cold, sunless, bleak, gray days that Minneapolis gets in late April, where you feel like if you see one more shade of gray (or put on one more layer of warm clothing), you're just going to curl up and die. It's a cheery thought.
I think this is a perfect example of the use of color that this contest is all about. Adding iridescence to flat colors is a wonderful technique.
