The walk station

We saw this featured on Good Morning America and thought it was brilliant. The desk and the treadmill built together. Steelcase and Mayo Clinic's Dr. James Levine worked together to build The Walk Station. The treadmill goes at a very slow pace of 1 mph so that you can take phone calls, answer

email and do your everyday work but still keep your body moving and metabolism up. The doctor said he used it himself for some time and dropped over 20lbs. We imagine it would be something like driving a stick shift and once you got the hang of it you wouldn't need to think about walking and talking. The proof is in the puddin' depending on your age and weight walking at 1mph can burn from 100 to 130 calories per hour if you add that up to an eight hour day and a full year that could be as much as a 40lb weight loss without dieting or leaving your office.

At a pricetag of $6500 it probably won't make it to your home anytime soon but Corporate America may just pony up, as research has shown that over weight employees cost them more money in health insurance and other health related illnesses.

So would you walk 1 mph if you could? What if you had the option to go back and forth say one or two days on per week?

I would love to have one of these. Sadly, our department just shelled out for new office furniture so I doubt a new desk is in the cards.
