apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look! Pink Kitchen

010908_marieclaire.jpg

We must have pink on the brain here in LA. But we just couldn't resist this Valentine's Day palette we saw on Marie Claire Maison. We've never had the guts to go pink, always fearing it would be too little girl....

Plus we tend to favor cooler tones of blue and green on our walls. But this kitchen made us do a doubletake.

With dark red accents, a hint of blue and some orange accessories, we're struck by how decidedly un-little-girl the pink feels. And there's no better way to warm up our unnaturally cold apartment (never a north facing apartment again!) than with these warm inviting tones.

What do you think? Would you consider a pink palette like this? Have you taken a risk on a color you weren't sure about only to be thrilled with the outcome? What's the biggest risk you've taken? Worst disaster?

Pink is a great color if you mix it with something sophisticated. When you add red to pink, it's no longer little girl. It's more Chinese-style. Add black to pink, and it's Parisian.

My livingroom is pink(ish) -- Benjamin Moore's Pirates Cove Beach -- and I absolutely love it.

How funny ... this is the exact color scheme I've been contemplating for my own kitchen. I figured that the red accents would cut through the girly-cutesiness of the pink, but I was still nervous. Granted, I think the tiles in that kitchen are a bit much (so busy!), but the color combo works very nicely. This gives me hope! Thanks, AT!

I don't know... still looks girl-y to me. Can't imagine any guys actually trying to set foot in it to cook anything

i really love a light pink - it's such a warm underused color! i agree it might be tough to get a guy in there to cook though... but i'll take it :)

Love it, but still get the girly vibe. Look at all the florals!

Aquila--YES! Now that you mention it I do remember that spread. I looked it up and it's the July/August 06 issue: The Trigano's house. It's Benjamin Moore's Regal Matte in Charming Pink. The wood floors are painted white which definitely helps...

LOVE Marie Claire Maison! since UK Elle Decoration has nosedived in the past year (awful editor), I have switched to Marie Claire.

As for pink being too girly, I seem to recall that the couple behind the Rug Company have (or had) a pink kitchen similar in tone and feel to this -- and they had 3 sons, so technically there was more testosterone around.

yuck... I don't like it and I really do like the colour pink too (looking at the pink sweater I am wearing right now and my pink nalgene).

My favorite room in the house is my pink office. All the furniture is vintage and walnut, at the pink and chocolate brown go beautifully together. It's definitely girly, but in what I like to think of as a modern, fun way.

Love that pink (rose dragee according to the site). Anyone know where I can get that in a paint color?

I really like that pink. I have a feeling that the lighting is adding a lot of interesting qualities to its look.

I was looking through my Pantone color chips this morning and think that one of their magenta tones may come close to this.

I think if you match it up right; pink and red can be awesome.
