After living in white-walled apartments for so many years, we really wanted a lot of color in our place so we painted each room a different color. We also wanted to complement the Southern California bungalow design with mid-century modern furniture, while at the same time incorporating some antique pieces we picked up in New England, for kind of a contemporary “lodge” feel.

the deer head amuses me so much...
we have the same coffee table!

It's the Eames plywood chair again! I've started keeping a chart of how many entries have it.
Madly love your dining room color and how it frames the black-and-white tiles in the kitchen. I was hoping the rest of the apartment would continue that tone. I *know* the whole mid-to-dark-gray-with-white look is very stylish right now and in impeccable taste -- but it never speaks to me, no matter who does it, probably because it's the Modernist version of Ultra-Formal. (Or possibly because I live in the land of fog, where greige is the air outside.)
This place makes me happy and I don't know why!
I like the dark chairs with the pine table. I've been too timid about mixing different colors of wood-you're inspiring me!
that is one cute bungalow! i can't believe it's under 600sf! wish all small apts/houses were designed this well.
love it!
Is the rest of the dead animal popping out of the kitchen side of that wall?
The green paint matches the "in contention" graph bar. How funny. It's a marvelous color. While it's not what I'd have done, I really appreciate the look you've created in your living room. Very well done.
Minus the green paint, this place looks more texas than california to me.
The deer looks too high to me, but that's a quibble. This is a nice place, and I'm not into MCM furniture, no matter how well designed. But this place looks bigger than the stated square footage.
I love the green paint! It looks really clean and fresh with the white. I would like to see the fabric on the dining room chairs too... looks intersting.
All the art and objects are really great and well-placed.
Nice lighting and furniture and style that go throughout the whole space.
I'm jealous of the molding/chair rail/corner shelf in the dining room!
I agree with Rachel. This place looks much bigger then the stated square footage.
10 points for the green walls. Minus 10 points for the deer head...especially if it's real. CREEEEPY.
That's the perfect height for a deer head. It's not something that you want to go eye-to-eye with.
I love your sofa! How much was it? Is tha Ebay as well? What brand is it?
oiy gvelt!
Also, what's going on with your desk? Is it completely anchored to the wall? Where did you get that as well? I wish more furniture was designed to be anchored to the wall. Anyway, wonderful place! I'm surprised by the number of entries featuring green paint on the walls.
I like the corner built-in hutch and that living area and I kind of even like that dang deer, for some reason.
I wish I could click on the images to get a larger more close up view of each image.
is this really a small space? it looks huge to me. only picking 'cause i am envious. i like it (tho' I can do without the deer head)
I'm a sucker for a black and white tiled floor!
omigawd. Clarity and warmth. Serenity and personal tchotkis. Plus real bois instead of faux bois in the form of the dead deer. Love the place. Tasidermy not so much.
taxidermy
Love your place. Do I spy an old Intellivision game console hanging on the wall in the second picture??
lovely
Beautiful, love the living room.
OK....no freagin' way is this space 580sq f...impossible...ok way to hide the other five hundred... uhmmm...yeah. Nice.
The use of color is cool. I dig the green wall. IMHO a tad too much clutter, but to each his own.
Love the place. What is the light piece to the right of the window at the end of the living room?
Wow, this apt. is adorable! #1 all the way! I love the colors and artwork on the walls! Beautiful!
I love how your design tip is perfectly illustrated in the pic below. Whose work is it? I'd also like to know about that light feature in your living room. I like it a lot more than the dear head (at least you don't have a hat on it!)
I'm glad to see someone else dealing with how to successfully integrate mid-century modern furniture and bungalow style.
This looks suspiciously larger than 580 sq feet. But good use of color and nice layout.
That is indeed a beautiful shade of green. So lush that it leads me to imagine Mr. Deer frolicking on your walls. Just in a dancing head sort of way but still...
To answer a few of the questions... the light fixture in the living room was a welded by Kevin. Some of the artwork in the apartment is also his (particularly in the bedroom).
The sofa is DWR.
The desk is indeed anchored to the wall. The apartment came that way so we turned that area into a home office.
And yes, it is an old Intellivision console! Good eye.
Unbelievable that this space is only 580 sq. ft.! I love the bright green wall, but I especially love the warmth of the living room - That color is fantastic.
love it all, right down to the little garbage can in the office (no bag?). love the art, the light, the color, the dning room chair apolstery, the artwork in the living room, the rugs, the lamps. what the heck is that above your bed (ikea, by the way?)? and above the desk-- to the side--? it looks like a lightboard or a linen board or something, but either way it works.
genius!
can you say 'dreamhouse'? i can!
great space and great colors! i love your couch and have been on the hunt for something exactly as yours. the single cushion is king! where is it from?
I love your desk area! Someone obviously works there, and it's so cohesive and organized.
Also, can you tell us about the centerpiece on the table?
that couch is gorgeous! the deer head on the wall reminds me of my dad, and i miss LA : (
WOW! you guys have such anice place. did one of you work/learn your trade from martha stewart?????
I love the Intellivision as decor item on the wall! Its a great idea for future gaming systems: wall mountable.
lovely...but hopefully the deer head is not real. Any dead animal in a room is a definite turn off.
I love everything about this space and the sense of personal style exudes. Having an apt. of similar size and layout, I can see it's def. in the 600sq ft range, and I give you serious props for knowing how to photograph it so beautifully. The green walls lend warmth, the Intellivision as art is genius and the stag's head rocks. Great job!
You house is fit up well. I like the parlour and the bedroom is also decorated well with the simple but nice pictures on the wall. Congratulations!
